POSTION SUMMARYThe Cost Accountant is responsible for the Plant financial/accounting functions and controls for the Belleville, MI manufacturing facility.--The individual must apply GAAP principles of cost accounting including analysis, budgeting, forecasting and variances for COGS, inventory labor, raw materials, etc., and preparing detailed cost information to the Plant Operations Team and other Financial Staff.--Preparation of financial statements and reporting processes including data submission to Corporate to ensure the integrity of financial statement submissions. CORE FUNCTIONS* Collect data to determine costs of business activities such as raw materials purchases, inventory and labor.* Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.* Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods or services provided to determine effects on cost.* Recommend cost efficiencies in current and new manufacturing practices.* Lead the month-end reporting process and plant performance variance analyses.* Record cost information for use in controlling expenditures.* Financial Business Partner on the Plant Operations Management Team including interpretation of financial reports with OPS staff.* Responsible for recording accuracy of all inventory and fixed asset values.* Report on KPIs tracking, analysis and explanation of variances. * Compile cost information to be used in operational budget.* Distributes weekly labor cost reports, ad hoc reporting and notify staff of customer chargebacks.* Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are undertaken on a timely and accurate basis.* Perform General Accounting tasks as needed and assist with financial and internal audits.* Participate in continuous improvement cost initiatives.* Accountable for accuracy and timeliness of all financial reports.* Work on financial special projects as directed by the Controller.SUCCESS FACTORS:* Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.* 3-5 years of manufacturing Cost Accounting, automotive industry preferred.* Comprehension of manufacturing financial transactions and reports.* Must have operational annual budget forecasting experience in manufacturing environment.* Analytical OPS metric experience with COGS, inventory, ad hoc reporting, raw materials, etc.* Skilled in gathering, managing and analyzing accounting data.* Demonstrate teamwork competencies in a multi-disciplinary manufacturing environment.* Must be organized, detail-oriented, analytical, result-driven, and capable of multi-tasking. * Advanced proficiency with MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and ERP/Accounting Systems.
