Job Title: Accountant II - PayrollFLSA: ExemptBand: 2Reporting to: Assistant ControllerDepartment: AccountingScope:Responsible for the maintenance of the agency's financial data in order to provide management with accurate information and all aspects of payroll internal controls and procedures.Essential Functions

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees; including reviewing and importing hours from time and attendance system, administering regulatory requirements, e.g., garnishments, tax levies, and support orders, and other adjustments to pay.
  • Perform necessary checks and reconciliations, prepare and transmit bi-weekly payroll to designated vendor.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Work independently to meet strict compliance deadlines to effectively deliver timely and accurate payrolls.
  • Assist in preparation for year-end audit; funding source monitoring visits; month- and year-end closings.
  • Assist with Agency procurement.
  • Prepare and post journal entries on a monthly basis.
  • Input mileage reimbursements for payroll processing.
  • Input and track staff allocations in data systems.
  • Assist in reconciliation of local and out of town travel reports.
  • Prepare various internal finance reports as required.
  • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.
  • Execute other specific tasks as assigned; some of which are continuing, while others are occasional in nature.

  • Other duties as assigned.Physical Requirements and Work EnvironmentThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job operates in a professional office environment with a usually quiet noise level. This is largely a sedentary role and the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, frequently use hands and to talk or hear.Minimum Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree, or a minimum of five years of experience in a related field OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.Minimum Competencies:
      • Working knowledge of intermediate internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
      • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
      • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
      • Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
      • Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
      • Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.Travel Requirements:
        • Ability to travel to various sites.Licensing and Other Requirements:
          • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
          • Must be COVID-19 vaccinated, or partially, with the ability to complete within 30-days of employment.
