Job description: Provide technical ergonomics support for GM Global Manufacturing Engineering Integration Ergonomics Group. Implement common GM design-in ergonomic process during vehicle/stamping and powertrain development process for new product programs. Coordinate future program ergonomic activities for multi-plant/multi-region programs. Implement ergonomic requirements throughout the product development process. Comprehend lessons learned and technical specifications to provide appropriate input into the development process for engineering and manufacturing. Knowledge of the organizational structure will be important. Required to learn and use GM's digital human modeling tool - Classic Jack for math based analysis. Provide technical direction to ergonomic team members. This position requires the need to assimilate data from many sources, and apply both practical and technical problem solving techniques. Assist in driving common ergonomics processes and design across new and major activities as well as within brownfield plants and global regions. Decisions are to be made within the limits of general practices, policies, and procedures. Major duties and responsibilities: Provide technical support for New & Major programs as assigned. Ensure the Ergonomics requirements are implemented throughout the duration of all new vehicle and global propulsion systems (GPS) programs. May include global program work. Coordinate programs covering multiple regions and sites to ensure that common tools, methods, systems are used which result in comparable ergonomic outcomes. Perform analysis & evaluation of operations, interpret specifications and guidelines, and provide technical recommendations to all requisite functions. Track open ergonomics issues to closure. Facilitate first level screening for ergonomic stressors and coordinate follow-up through appropriate engineering team. Train business units /engineers in the design-in ergonomics process and specific analysis methods and tools. Train manufacturing engineers and full-service vendors in the use of the Ergonomics Tooling Worksheets. Use 3D Math Digital Human Model (DHM) Simulations to ensure technical ergonomic options are understood and acceptable for implementation on either new programs or focus factory applications. Provide technical direction to other ergonomic team members as required. Coach new team members on the use of ergonomic tools, techniques and software. Provide communication "bridge" between plant ergonomics and Central Office/Headquarters engineering activities by bringing current plant ergonomics issues to the appropriate design and manufacturing engineers. Assist Plants with identification and development of ergonomics solutions on plant specific requests and issues. Participate and lead as appropriate specific ergonomics initiatives/projects as needed. Provide timely written reports and updates on specific ergonomics projects Other contributions as required. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering or Ergonomics/Human Kinetics degree (Required). If IE or ME, course work in ergonomics or degree in ergonomics, human kinetics or related ergonomics degree (Preferred) 3 years of industrial experience in manufacturing (Preferred). Automotive experience (Preferred). 2+ years using ergonomic tools and/or ergonomic process implementation in manufacturing/industry (Preferred). Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute manufacturing and/or ergonomic manufacturing projects (Required). Demonstrated understanding of plant floor and product design manufacturability (Preferred). AutoCAD and CAD/UG working with 3D Human Modeling Simulation or advance computer skills (Preferred). High level of interpersonal, oral and written communication skills-ability to interact with all levels of the organization (Required). High level of analytical ability and problem solving skills (Required). Demonstrated history of implementing and documenting process changes in a manufacturing facility (Required). Demonstrated ability to work well with multiple customers at the same time (Required). Demonstrated ability to work with the UAW and other unions (Preferred). Ability to travel is required.
