Job Description:
Process Engineer (Paint Process Systems) PURPOSE AND
DESCRIPTION: As a Paint Process Engineer, for the leading supplier
of paint robots and robotic paint application equipment in North
America, you will design, test, and/or implement state-of-the-art
robotic painting solutions for automotive, heavy truck, or Tier I
suppliers. Your responsibilities include a combination of robot
program design, robot programming, and spray application
engineering. You will work with other members of the Process
Engineering Group on projects involving the implementation of paint
robot solutions at end-user facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- The Engineering responsibilities will include one or more of
the following:
- Design and implement the robot processes and spray application
parameters for installation in the end-user facility.
- Install, launch, and optimize the programs at customer
sites
- Develop robot programs offline using PaintPRO
- Perform process system verification testing at modular
build
- To use offline simulation tools for system design or advanced
robot programming.
- Perform spray testing in the laboratory to determine the
optimal application settings.
- Provide project and customer troubleshooting and support to
existing installations.
- Perform process engineering analysis and feasibility studies of
paint automation equipment required for the release of customer
quotations.
- Provide advanced process engineering support for difficult
applications and field troubleshooting for identified process and
application equipment problems.
- Optimize the integration of application equipment, specifically
bell atomizers and fluid delivery equipment for projects (e.g.
optimize color change, ensure proper settings per system
verification manual, etc.).
- Ensure equipment is installed and configured optimally during
modular builds and field installation.
- Provide training to Engineers and customers on application
equipment and process.
- Provide project support to verify and ensure that application
equipment is performing as inspected.
- Provide recommendations for application equipment improvements
to enhance performance and reduce cost or for updates to the system
verification manuals and troubleshooting methods.
- Ability to record and interpret paint quality data such as film
builds, defects, and color/quality. OTHER FUNCTIONS:
- Perform customer demonstrations or system validations.
- Provide technical expertise and assurance to customers during
sales appointments with sales personnel.
- Coordinate with other project team members at FANUC America
during system installation.
- Provide feedback and suggestions for product design
improvements.
- Provide progress updates as required to management. MINIMUM
REQUIREMENTS: 1. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE
- Process knowledge and experience in fluid delivery systems,
rotary atomizer (bells), and spray gun applications.
- Experienced in paint robot programming with FANUC Robots
- Experienced with PaintPRO and/or other offline programming
software
- Experience in launching robot systems at customer
facilities.
- Problem-solving, identifying causes, and offering other
potential solutions.
- Must be organized and able to manage multiple tasks at one
time.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an emphasis on satisfying the
customer.
- Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
- Solid PC skills. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- Bachelor's degree in a Technical Engineering discipline or
equivalent relevant experience.
- Paint process experience with FANUC America paint robots.
- Experience with paint and powder application & equipment
including:
- paint spray gun and bell applications.
- pumping/fluid delivery equipment. 3. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND
DEXTERITY
- The execution portion of this job: requires a significant
amount of walking and standing on the grating and concrete floors
and proper use of hand tools. 4. VISUAL ACUITY, HEARING, SPEAKING
- Good visual acuity, hearing, and speaking are required. 5.
ENVIRONMENT AND SCHEDULING --- Exposure to chemicals: 2K, water,
and solvent-based paints. --- Willing to work overtime when
required to meet special deadlines in response to customer
requirements. --- Domestic and International travel assignments;
80-85 % travel is required.Must be able to travel on short notice.
