Job Description:
As an Algorithm and Design Development Specialist, you will be responsible for the design and development of embedded controls and diagnostics software for company's new 12/48V EP technologies and ATW projects like company's patented MODACS technology (Multiple Output Dynamically Adjustable Capacity System) enabling multiple batteries in one battery supporting 12/12V, 12/48V, etc. and GM's SEC technology (Smart Energy Center) providing an innovative diagnoseable and scalable power distribution system both licensed to multiple Tier 1 and Tier 2 partners. This position involves a combination of requirements analysis, development of models, algorithms, hand code and test cases along with related verifications to ensure robust execution of these features. Core Responsibilities

  • Design and develop novel controls and diagnostic strategies, and algorithms for game-changing Electric Power (EP) MODACS and SEC technologies that enable cost effective and power efficient Fail Operational Power capabilities, enhanced diagnostics, and improved QRD performance on company vehicles
  • Work closely with multi-disciplined engineering teams to understand functional requirements and implement appropriate diagnostic and control solutions
  • Apply model-based software development approach that utilizes both graphical and traditional software development methods
  • Integrate MATLAB Simulink models, adhering to modeling/software/auto coding best practices
  • Evaluate various algorithm options to optimize functionality and efficacy, CPU bandwidth, and memory utilization requirements and restrictions
  • Create documentation required for internal and external customers to successfully integrate, calibrate, and test new algorithms into the mainstream development software
  • Create hand code to address any requirements not achieved through auto coding process
  • Perform Integration & Verification Testing of Integrated Software
  • Build, maintain and implement test plans and procedures
  • Test and debug software using models, simulation, controller hardware and vehicles to perform HIL and Integration testing
  • Work with our internal Calibration, Systems and Integration teams
  • Provide technical direction to support personnel
  • Execute plans with appropriate technical guidance
  • Travel as required Required Skills and Experience
    • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mechatronics, Software, Electrical or Computer Engineering
    • Experience with Controls Algorithm and Software development, implementation and testing of real-time embedded controls systems
    • Experience with Change Management systems such as RTC and GIT environment(s)
    • Strong MATLAB Simulink, State Flow, Rhapsody and embedded controls programming skills
    • Experience with CAN, LIN protocol and use of serial communication tools (e.g., CANoe, Vspy, etc.)
    • Experience with real time controls development
    • Experience with development in an autosar environment
    • Experience with CANalyszer or VehicleSpy scripting
    • Experience with dSPACE/Control Desk or similar HIL tools
    • Experience with ETAS/INCA, Intrepid/Vehicle Spy or similar DAQ tools
    • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies and employ systems engineering and controls principles to make such technologies practical
    • Ability to work in a team and interface with colleagues from different backgrounds towards technology improvement and problem resolution
    • High analytical ability, effective communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills required to build relationships with local and global team members and customers to resolve issues
    • Demonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others Preferred Skills and Experience
      • Experience reading and debugging source code in C
      • 1 -3 years of embedded software, automotive product development or engineering project work in team environment
      • Experience with Embedded Controls and Software for Automotive Control Modules
      • Hardware I/O level controller knowledge is a strong asset
      • CAN and LIN communication protocol knowledge is a significant asset Preferred work schedule: First shift 40 hours/week
