Position Description
The Renewables Project Engineer is responsible for performing civil
engineering design and/or CAD tasks on various projects as
directed. Work will include the design and applicable permitting of
site layouts, grading plans, utility systems, stormwater
management, soil erosion and sedimentation control plans, and
street improvements on a variety of project types including wind,
solar, battery storage, micro-grid, and electric vehicle (EV)
charging infrastructure for private and public clients. Clients may
include developers, contractors, utility companies, institutions,
municipalities, and commercial & industrial firms. Work may also
include grant and loan applications, rate studies, construction
administration, traffic control, local, state, and federal
compliance issues, reporting, and public
relations/communication.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead mid to large-sized projects ensuring deadlines, technical
aspects, and quality expectations of design intent is met
- Produce drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D / drafting equipment
and software, and/or modify drawings as necessary
- Prepare reports using Microsoft Office or other similar
software
- Correspond with private and public agencies
- Prepare permit applications to federal, state, and local
agencies
- Prepare capital improvement plans
- Prepare quantities for construction estimates, project
specifications and standard details
- Prepare bid documents for private, public, and other
governmental agency projects
- Communicate with contractors and subcontractors on private and
public projects
- Prepare project specifications and standard details
- Perform field inspections of existing pavement, utilities, and
other infrastructure as necessary
- Coordinate application approval process; follow up on requests
for additional/missing information
- Plot, organize and assemble project-related documents, permit
applications, and cut sheets
- Exercise judgment with adaptations of engineering alternatives
while adhering to Company standards and methodologies
- Perform QA/QC review on construction drawings, technical
reports, and other project related documents
- Maintain exceptional internal and external client
relations
- Achieve performance objectives and financial metrics (see Key
Performance Indicator document)
- Work efficiently and effectively under tight deadlines as well
as balance multiple projects by prioritizing effectively
- Lead small project teams and mentor junior staff
- Work collaboratively in diverse teams of CAD technicians,
ecologists, GIS analysts, surveyors, & non-technical personnel
- Excellent written, presentation, interpersonal communication,
and concentration skills
- Work independently on private and/or public projects
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or related field and/or
equivalent combination of education & experience
- PE license required
- Minimum six (6) years applicable experience
- High proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- High proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software
- Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time in both urban
and remote areas (-10% travel anticipated in the near term)
- Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to travel to
client and project sites
