Job Description:
The Lead Product Engineer is responsible for leading project.
Has full and complete responsibility for all aspects of the
successful design, development, testing validation and support of
manufacturing launch for product/project. Provides front-line
customer engineering interface for product/project. Is responsible
for leading the design and processes for a specific project,
program or product line to meet current and future needs. Supports
technical leadership. Develops the technical skills and knowledge
and provides technical direction of the engineers and designers on
the team. Develops and provides resolution to customer technical
issues through the CBU/PBU Chief Engineer or Engineering Manager.
Supports core members of the SDT.
Provides and supports project direction to designers, engineers and
support personnel. Provides solutions to meet all technical and
project issues and works with team to ensure time and cost
objectives are met. Understands and identifies the resource
requirements to meet program/product objectives. Implements and
facilitates the use of best practices in engineering. Supports the
program/product engineering budget. Can communicate effectively
with management.
Has solid analytical skills, supports PDfSS, is a proficient
problem solver and solution provider, is able to balance
conflicting requirements and risk. Has product launch experience,
technical degree or equivalent. Achieves project deliverables.
Provides leadership focus on project timing, cost and quality
objectives. Supports development of technical solutions to define
and meet business objectives.
Specific Functions-Technical Responsibilities
Supports technical design reviews monthly/as necessary. Provides
input to the technical design review report.
Applies best practices in creating layout drawings, detail drawings
and assembly drawings. Ensures that the customer's environment
drawings are kept up to date and that no packaging or interference
problems exist in the drawings/data.
Facilitates, develops and implements best practices in design and
engineering. This includes but is not limited to PDfSS, drawing
standards, FEA, GD&T, root cause analysis, DVP, DFMEA, hand
calculations and use of carry-over and CPP technology.
Executes robust design/design changes to provide the highest
quality in the build and assembly of prototype parts with the
agreed-to process. Personally, ensures that the design and
engineering data is released on-time to ensure the highest quality
assemblies for testing and the customer.
Leads root cause analysis in the resolution of any test failures.
Reviews the analysis with the appropriate engineering management
resources to resolve any particularly difficult problems. Ensures
the appropriate management teams are aware of any potential safety
concern.
Generates optimized DVP&R with appropriate support groups
assuring the minimum number of prototypes are being tested and the
best choice of reliability techniques are used to determine test
duration, number of samples and types of tests.
Generates DFMEAs prior to release of prototype tooling.
Reviews FEA/analysis/testing prior to finalizing concept, release
of prototype tooling and release of production tooling to ensure
design meets desired criteria/specifications.
Supports development of technical solutions to define and meet
business objectives (cost, performance, timing, weight and
investment).
Executes best practices and early detection for BSR, generates
BS&R roadmaps to meet program/ product initiatives.
Uses the right tool/technology for providing technical solution to
program/product issues.
Is aware of advancing technology and implements them as
appropriate.
Executes other assignments as directed
Specific Functions-Administrative Responsibilities
Facilitates and recommends necessary or required training for
designers and support personnel for all basic technical skill
requirements.
Supports development of and meets the agreed-to budget for the
product. Ensures customer scope changes are documented, budgeted
and approved prior to commencement of activity.
Executes and supports all ADIENT strategic direction/initiatives
and systems including PDfSS, CPP, PLUS, off-shore design, etc.
Provides input to management for implementation of career planning
and personal development of program/product staff.
Provides input for annual performance reviews for program/product
staff.
Supports the program/product team in resolving customer technical
issues.
Education and Experience
Degree in Engineering or Equivalent Experience. 5-8 years in
engineering. Complete Seat experience preferred.
