Position Summary The Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a caregiver for
residents during assigned shifts in a long-term care environment.
This role involves providing resident-focused nursing care and
daily living assistance under the supervision of an RN. The NA is
responsible for delivering age-appropriate care that addresses both
the physical and psychological needs of residents as outlined in
their care plans. As a vital member of the nursing team, the NA is
expected to adhere to infection prevention and control policies and
utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) appropriately.
Responsibilities include: Assisting with essential health care
tasks such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and recording
vital signs. Offering psychosocial support and personal care to
assigned residents. Helping residents with mobility, including
transferring, repositioning, and walking, using proper techniques
and equipment. Facilitating dining experiences by assisting with
meal preparation and serving, ensuring a positive atmosphere.
Documenting resident interactions and care outcomes, and
communicating any changes in condition to the charge nurse.
Collecting non-invasive body fluid samples and vital signs as
needed. Providing housekeeping and laundry services to maintain
clean living spaces. Supporting wellness and recreational programs,
encouraging resident participation. Engaging in departmental
committees and task forces as required. Qualifications High school
diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred but not mandatory. Minimum
age requirement of 16 years. Previous experience in long-term care
as a nursing assistant is advantageous. Must possess a Certified
Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification from the State Board of
Nursing or obtain certification within four months of employment by
enrolling in a training program. Completion of annual competency
testing and maintenance of continuing education credits, with a
minimum of 12 hours required each year. For applicable states, must
be certified and registered with the Unlicensed Assistive Person
(UAP) Registry. This role may require a motor vehicle report and
proof of a valid driver’s license, depending on facility needs.
