Have you ever thought about the road being the red carpet? The Bumper, Grille, Fascia and Exterior Trim (BGFT - pronounced "Big Foot") engineering department's deliverables are key to winning our GM customers through attractive exterior styling and performance! Candidate's primary responsibility is designing, engineering and releasing of exterior subsystems (BGFT). The candidate will utilize a considerable amount of creativity, initiative and high level of independent judgment.Responsibilities may include:* Lead/Support large cross-functional Product Development Team(s) (PDT) for component/subsystems (Members consist of suppliers, designers, other engineers, validation, manufacturing, supplier quality, dimensional, CAE, purchasing, etc.)* Support the development of groundbreaking solutions for new technologies involving electric & autonomous vehicles, active safety, and lit elements.* Lead in-house designs, on time with quality, to meet all required program milestones/deliverables* Design and package both BGFT components and "directed buy" components such as sensors, cameras, harnesses, lamps, etc.* Lead the development of criteria/typical sections using Unigraphics math data; connect with the studio for surface development that meets requirements.* Balance subsystem imperatives (cost, timing, mass, warranty, etc.)* Perform appropriate design studies/alternatives, and present studies and business cases to the program team for efficient decision making* Support/lead design reviews and technical reviews to ensure 100 percent design fidelity and all best practices are implemented.* Build Interface Control Documents (ICD) requirements for component and subsystem interfaces. Negotiate and acquire agreement with peers for interfacing components.* Develop Statement of Requirements (SOR) and support the sourcing process for assigned BGFT programs* Lead launch efforts for BGFT by working closely with the assembly plant(s) and cross-functional personnel to quickly bring issues to resolutionAdditional Job DescriptionRequired:* Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in Engineering* 2 + years of proven experience as a Design Release Engineer or relevant industry experience* Experience in execution of vehicle development cycles (concept through production launch)* Excellent program management skills* Excellent physics-based problem solving skillsPreferred:* Green Belt DFSS certification* Experience working with global engineering teams and suppliersKnowledge of and/or training in:* Global safety regulations* Manufacturing and assembly processes* Plastic injection molding (both tooling and design)* Fixture design and product validation* Budget managementBenefits OverviewThe goal of the General Motors total rewards program is to support the health and well-being of you and your family.
