And we are proud to support our employees volunteer interests, and make it a priority to join together in efforts that give back to our communities.Job DescriptionIn our Electrification and Powertrain Sealing and Fastening group, we analyze sealing systems and bolted joints in all electrification and powertrain subsystems. These include engines, transmissions, electric vehicle batteries, power electronics, and drive units. The components range from die cast housings and stamped steel or composite covers to hyper-elastic seals and o-rings.CAE Engineer will be responsible for capturing information from a variety of sources inside and outside GM, building and running analytical models, interpreting results for customers, attending development team meetings, interacting with compartment integration teams.Responsibilities:As a CAE engineer, your primary responsibility is to analyze design.Participate in Product Development teams on new / major / minor designs, providing analysis to assess performance of new designs.Develop methods for problem root cause analysis and identification.Build Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models from CAD solid models.Apply appropriate load cases to an perform analysis.Post process the analysis results including producing plots for engineering reports.Interpret the results for designers and design responsible engineers, providing design improvement suggestions as necessary.Compare results to design targets.As a CAE Engineer, you will also lead/ participate in development of new engineering analysis capabilities.Additional Job DescriptionRequired Skills and Experience:2+ years of experience with structural analysis of mechanical components and systemsHighly proficient with ABAQUS, OPTISTRUCT, ANSYS or NASTRANHighly proficient with HYPERMESH, SIMLAB or equivalent meshing & post-processing softwareFamiliarwith Fe-safe/FEMFAT, Mold Flow, DIGIMATGood understanding of non-linear analysis, failure theories and multi-axial fatigue and compositesHigh level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficultHigh level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with othersHigh level of oral and written communication skillsPreferred Skills and Experience:3+ years of experience with structural analysis of propulsion components and systems, includingexperience inone of the following areas: Propulsion/powertrain Structural Durability & Sealing & Fastening (Joint Integrity)Experience or working knowledge of Composite Structures durability analysis.Good understanding of Elastomer & JointsExperience with I-sight, Tosca, Optistruct or/other optimization softwareExperience with component and/or material testing.Proficient or working knowledge of Python, Tcl/Tk or/other scriptingKnowledge of variation simulation analysis, Sealing interfaces & High Pressure Fuel Pipes.Thorough system-level understanding of any propulsion systems (engines/electrified)Education:BS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is required.MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering is preferred.Benefits OverviewThe goal of the General Motors total rewards program is to support the health and well-being of you and your family.
